Large magnetocaloric effect in low-cobalt-content Gd-Co-Al metallic glasses

Magnetic refrigeration represents a promising technology. A number of Gd-based metallic glasses have been demonstrated to exhibit excellent magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and superior refrigerant capacity. The development such often involves the identification glass-forming alloys, in which MCE is further evaluated. process laborious time-consuming as it typically relies on conventional trial-and-error methods. In this work, we demonstrate rapid Gd-Co-Al alloys exhibiting MCE. Specifically, apply combinatorial synthesis paired with high-throughput characterizations reveal range obtain guideline from existing literature. This substantially reduces compositional space needs be individually measured. Three new Gd60Co10Al30, Gd65Co10Al25, Gd70Co5Al25, were found highest capacity within system.
